Kris Kristofferson by Fans, for Fans

In appreciation of the Silver Tongued Devil

Kris Kristofferson offstage – it’s quite hard to imagine. Despite a schedule that would make a young man cringe, Kris shares more than stage time with at least one of the Strangers. It’s called Walking on Purpose

Kris Kristofferson has been touring extensively these past few years. Scott Joss, a songwriter and performer in his own right, has been right there with him – Along with the Strangers.

The Strangers were known as the band that backed Merle Haggard. Nowadays, many regard them as a wonderful group of talented men who can hold their own solo, or as a skilled and experienced band of talented musicians that play music right from the heart.

Kris Kristofferson and the Strangers -About to hit the road

Scott Joss is about to rejoin Kris Kristofferson for four shows on north end of the west coast. he told us that these shows were delayed because “Kris had to run off and go be part of Willie’s tribute show…” He’s promised to keep his fans posted as they are moving along – And he’s fine with us tuning in.

Scott told his fans yesterday that he and Judy and are about a day away from leaving home to “go outside and play”…with Kris and the guys. He said that, over the years, he’s had a lot of folks ask him …

“What do you do with your time when you’re not out on the road?”

He answered the question. He said that for the last 21 years he’s spent many an hour “walking on purpose” – 6-8 miles a day (most days it’s a little more) as there are so many wonderful trails around his home.

On the road, he says that he can walk out of any hotel he happens to be in and find himself a “doable” road route.

Kris Kristofferson has always been an athlete. He is known to have often woken up early on tour and started running, then hopped on the tourbus when it caught up with him. it seems Kris Kristofferson and Scott Joss have a lot in common.

Seriously? Why?

Scott is serious about running. He says, “I started keeping track of my “on purpose” miles in December 1997. As of now, I’ve logged 17,200+ miles. Judy is my “regular” walking partner. When she’s busy, I’ll have my granddaughter as my sidekick”

Alone not Lonely

Scott said that he sometimes runs alone – Alone with his thoughts and a song. He adds that most, if not all, of the songs he’s written, were “found” while he was out walking.

That’s why you’ll find Scott Joss and perhaps Kris Kristofferson on the trail when they aren’t on stage.

Walking on Purpose

Hey! It’s Kris! He discovered the Sundial Bridge and trail while he was here in Redding for the Carr Fire benefit…He’s been running and walking for years” – Scott Joss

There might be something in this “walking on purpose”. It’s sure paid off for Kris and Scott. They both look amazing on stage, and their performances are stellar.

Next time you are sitting through a gig that lasts a few hours, consider that those men standing on stage, working and playing their souls out might be awake before you – and treading grass or tar.
