Kris Kristofferson Fans Speak Out  … about the Star is Born remake Looking forward to seeing the NEW Star is born, just to see what they do with it. However, A Star is Born is and will always be my ALL TIME favorite movie. I can watch it over and over again, which I have at times. The sound track tells such a love story, and I can’t imagine anyone but Kris and Barbra playing those roles!!! Sad and sacrificing ending. Selfish on his part and loving all in the same breath…Just loved it!! Was thrilled when they put it on Netflix this summer! However, will the new one stand up to the old one? Will it have that UMPH? Time will tell…. Donna Piergallini   No couple will ever replace Kris and Barbra in any remake of ASIB, I agree. My ALL TIME favorite movie (that one is easy, can’t pick a favorite song, though). But I have to say the trailer for this remake seemed good to me…he’s a sexy guy, she’s a great performer and vocalist (IMHO) and I thought they also had good chemistry. Scott Joss 2018 7

Scott Joss – How Far to Jordan

Scott Joss –  A Stranger, A Friend We fell in love with some of the Strangers during Kris Kristofferson’s Euro tour earlier this year. Now one of the Strangers, the charming Scott Joss is treating fans to an album of his own.  Pssst.. You’ll hear Kris Kristofferson on a couple of the tracks.    How Far to Jordan Question or statement of fact – Too many of us have had too many reasons to think, whisper, mutter or scream a string of words like this.  Songwriters (the good ones) have always helped us make sense of the things that matter most in our lives. The right song at the right time puts us on the spot, or blows us away.  Love & choices are priorities for people with heart. Ok, they’re priorities for the more mature amongst us, too. The title track is Scott Joss’ first gospel song. How Far to Jordan weighs in on deeply personal issues – the sort Kris has never shied away from. It’s fitting that he chose to join Scott on this title track.  Footlights A universal song for the universal songman. It’s about everyone who takes the stage and gives all they have…night after night. People like Kris, Scott & Merle …  Footlights is a Merle Haggard song. Kris joins Scott on this track as a touching and genuine tribute to the man we know as “The Hag” – & they know as a well loved & sorely missed friend. Kris has shown his love & support for Merle many times over the years. Scott says that he, “knew (Merle Haggard) as a major guiding force in his (own) musical journey.”  Three men, one song. Two perform, one speaks through his music.  The Album Scott says he included a couple of Freddy Powers tunes because, “without his influence and love things, for me, would probably not worked out as well as they have…” The others are all Scott Joss songs. I cannot wait to hear them.    The album will be available on Spotify & other streaming sites soon. The website is almost ready & we’ll let you know when it’s live. Scott has got boxes of CDs & a little traveling rig. He hopes you’ll buy a disc & come & see him when he’s out your way.    Credit: Pictures are copyright Tina Stapelfeldt, except the album cover.

Kris Kristofferson's Boots 0

Kris Kristofferson’s Boots

Kris Kristofferson’s Boots & Band Kris Kristofferson’s boots have kept him standing for a long time. A band member guessed 30 years. Biggest KK Fan says it’s longer, since 1971 at least. I don’t argue with BKKF ever. If it involves Kris & film she is THE expert.  The tour is almost over. Kris’ gig in Ireland tonight is for charity. What a human, what a tour.  Time for a quick pause & a brief glance back. A member of the band took a pic of Kris’ boots last night. They are symbols of a road well-travelled & a life well lived.  Willie has Trigger, Kris Kristofferson’s boots have him  Kris Kristofferson fans have grown accustomed to their intimate evenings with Kris. Sure, Kelly did a few songs with her father sometimes, & that was okay. It added a family vibe that complimented his work on his later albums. Roddy Hart or local artists in different towns opened & sang a few songs, & that was alright. The crowd still got what it expected. Lots of Kris alone on stage, travelling light – Free to adjust the set list or the tone to match his or the audience mood, & to talk to us when he felt like it. We were as comfortable with Kris as he was with his boots.  It’d been too long since we saw him last. The natives were getting restless. Then it happened.  The 2018 tour was announced There was great excitement, then the lull. Kris was coming, “YAY!” He wasn’t coming alone. “OH?” “OHHHHH, K.”  If you have ever invited a dear, old friend to come & stay, got ready for the visit, made your plans – Then discovered he was coming, but a new partner & bunch of adult in-laws were tagging along, then you have some idea of how many dedicated Kristofferson fans felt. Some looked back to the 90’s & wondered if they had another revolution in them. Others wished they hadn’t pre-booked (and pre-paid) for their hotel & air tickets, ‘though most were set on going anyway – It was worth seeing Kris even if it meant putting up with other people, wasn’t it? If these other people were called the Strangers, did that change anything? Maybe. Some expectations lowered, but the excitement never faded.  We heard the new band members were from the band that backed Merle Haggard. That cheered up some people & confused others. Kris Kristofferson fans in the UK & some parts of Europe are not necessarily country music fans. I know this differs across continents, counties, provinces & even towns – But as strange as it might seem to some, there are Kristofferson fans who actually dislike country music altogether, or are otherwise unfamiliar with the genre &/ or other country artists.  Some heard the name of the band & thought – We bought familiar, we got Strangers – We’ll make do.   The News was OUT The tour started. Kris has a growing number of younger fans in Europe. Some of us older fans have got more internet savvy. We talk to each other. We traded our Bush Telegraph for Social Media, so we now speak Facetime or WhatsApp & we share pics & video, too. The news flitted through cyberspace, ahead of the busses.  Kris News  Kris was looking good Kris wasn’t signing autographs Kris headed for the bus right after each show No encores Merchandise kept selling out / Advice to get in quick  Band News The guys in the band were Great musicians Great fit. Blended well on stage Unassuming Gentlemen  Friends of Kris’ Attentive – Spent time with fans Great with autographs  Familiar. Watching them felt like watching Kris perform with family or very close friends So WHO are they? They are very well-known, highly skilled musicians in their own right.  Scott Joss – the fiddler Scott Joss has his own solo career, & backed / recorded with Merle Haggard since at least 2003.  Scott Joss plays the fiddle, mandolin & guitar. He is also a songwriter & a fabulous musician (from me who cannot play or read or a note, but I have ears & I know what I like) He looks amazing on stage, & has mastered the knack of breaking in & backing off at just the right moment.  Jeff Ingraham – the drummer  This article tells a bit about his career – notably, one of his biggest learnings was to play for the room. That has come across loud & clear on this tour, & endeared him to fans as the heartbeat of each performance  Doug Colosio – Keyboard & Base  Doug Colosio is an accomplished singer/songwriter & keyboard & base stage musician  He is interviewed here A Couple of Strangers Doug Colosio & Joss Scott cut some muic under the name, A Couple of Strangers.  The link includes their BIOS as well as some video & other links   Doug completes the trio of Some Strangers who backed Kris on this tour. Guess what? We would love to have them return with Kris on his next tour.  In the UK, like most places I suppose, we’d love more dates in the north of the country. Manchester, Birmingham – even Hull all have great venues that we’ll fill for you next time round. Tour Fan Pics & Video can be found here  Look for the ones dated 2018

Protest 4

Kris & Sinead

Kris Kristofferson & Sinead O’Connor Kris Kristofferson loves Ireland. We know this because Kris enjoys his gigs in Ireland. It shows He donates heavily to Irish charities when he tours the Emerald Isle He has told us so. Many times Kris & Sinead  Protest Sinead made headlines & sparked international controversy in 1992 when she tore up a picture of the Pope on live television. She was protesting horrific, institutionalised child abuse & cover up attempts made by the Catholic church in her native Ireland. BobbyFest Bob Dylan’s 30th Anniversary concert was a highly anticipated & publicised event at Madison Square Gardens. World famous performers turned out to pay tribute to the legendary artist. Sinead O’Connor was one of them. The huge crowd attended to honour Bob Dylan. Sinead’s appearance on Saturday Night Live just a fortnight earlier had evoked strong & divided public opinions. The sellout concert was to be recorded. Kris Defends Sinead Kris Kristofferson told a volatile, vocal audience, “I’m real proud to introduce this next artist. Her name has become synonymous with courage and integrity.” They responded with overwhelming disapproval. Sinead looked frail with her tiny frame & shaved head. Her voice was strong. She ranted through a monologue of anger …. & did it again. She was boo-ed off stage. Her performance was edited out of the cd that was later released. It was painful to watch – One small, young girl against a tide of abuse yelling gangs of people. Kris Kristofferson stood by Sinead, held her & led her to the safety of the wings when she done. Kris had initially been told to get Sinead off the stage. He refused to do that, & instead told her, “Don’t let the bastards get you down.” (Like the title of one of his songs) Kris Talks about Sinead Kris in Sinead’s This is to Mother You Kris Kristofferson featured in a Sinead O’Connor music video for the song, This is to Mother You. I believe this was from 1997, as part of The Gospel Oak EP (Correct me if you know otherwise) Kris Kristofferson & Sinead O’Connor Music video   Closer to The Bone Kris Kristofferson wrote a song about Sinead O’Connor. It featured in his 2009 alum, Closer to the Bone. Sister Sinead – Lyrics (Extract) I’m singing this song for my sister Sinead Concerning the god awful mess that she made When she told them her truth just as hard as she could Her message profoundly was misunderstood There’s humans entrusted with guarding our gold And humans in charge of the saving of souls And humans responded all over the world Condemning that bald headed brave little girl And maybe she’s crazy and maybe she ain’t But so was Picasso and so were the saints And she’s never been partial to shackles or chains She’s too old for breaking and too young to tame It’s askin? for trouble to stick out your neck In terms of a target a big silhouette But some candles flicker and some candles fade & some burn as true my sister Sinead.

Kris’ Quote – Artist’s Eye and a Human Heart – New book –

Kris’ Quote, Johnny’s Cash & Charley’s Pride Kris Kristofferson writes. That is what he does. Sure, he sings, acts, raises his voice & money in support of causes that he believes in – But most of all – he writes. Peter Cooper writes, too. The title of his book makes me smile. Johnny’s Cash and Charley’s Pride: Lasting Legends and Untold Adventures in Country Music     Kris Kristofferson Quote A Kris Kristofferson quote on the back cover of Peter Cooper’s book says, “Peter Cooper looks at the world with an artist’s eye and a human heart and soul.”     Why I am Ordering this Book Kris Kristofferson gave the author the thumbs up. That alone sold me.  Endorsements include Hank Williams Jr Tom T. Hall (member Country Music Hall of Fame) John Prine (member Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame)  American Songwriter magazine & The author was a journalist for The Tennessean, &  is a senior director, producer, and writer at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Peter Cook chronicles his experiences with legends and others in the country music scene. hence the subtitle –  Lasting Legends and Untold Adventures in Country Music Most of all, I want to read stories & tales that include Cowboy Jack Clement, Waylon Jennings, Chet Atkins, Johnny Cash, Charley Pride & many others – Especially, Kris Kristofferson. A recent article by Tim Gianni (the author’s ex-Boss & close friend) says Peter Cooper is  “A musician who has a few albums out himself, he relished every moment, every opportunity, to spend time with Music City’s finest citizens, listening to their tales.” The book is “a human-flavored read that begins with Cowboy Jack Clement ………..and ends with Waylon Jennings talking to him about Chet Atkins after that great guitarist, RCA exec and Nashville innovator had died.” Quotes the author saying,  “I spent a lot of time off the clock around Cowboy Jack Clement and Tom T. Hall and Kris Kristofferson, because I recognized they were extraordinary people and because I’m selfish, and I wanted to hear the things that they had to say when I wasn’t writing for publication.” & “I wrote it as if I was talking to someone at the Three Crow Bar who had just happened in and sat at the bar stool next to me.”   & Mr. Cooper wrote & wrote – 253 pages in all,  framed in 19 Chapters.
