Kris Kristofferson Concert Reviews

Kris Kristofferson Concert Reviews through the Decades Kris Kristofferson Concert Reviews : I’ve been everywhere & I’ve seen everything there is  2018 Scott Rollins, gig 17 November 2018, Golden Nugget – Lake Charles, Lake Charles, LA 1973 Naman Crowe tells us about a concert he attended aged 27. He’d been a Kris Kristofferson fan for around 3 years. We are so grateful he attended. His concert review is so clear that it takes us back to the time when Kris & Rita were on the road ..

Kristofferson 1980s 1

1980s Kris Kristofferson Socks

Tour Tales – A collection of stories from the road that are worth saving and sharing Ivan posted this clip in our group. He said, “What follows is 15 minutes of pure magic: Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson singing in a segment of Hee Haw (a program of CBS from the 1970s). First Willie sings, then comes Kris, and in the end, they sing a duet.” It reminded Emily of a time back in the 1980’s. Her response is worth sharing. Kris Kristofferson Socks – A Tour Tale 1980s So good to see this old clip, with Stephen, Billy, Sammy Creason, and “The Ghost” (Tommy McClure)….miss those guys. This brings up another good memory, re Loved Her Right Down to Her Socks. Kris would tell that story when he sang it at concerts (’80s) and after we’d heard it the first time, my “compadres” and I wanted to do something fun related to it. So we went shopping. The next show, when he got to that line “He loved her right down to her socks–and no further,” up into the air went about 10 wiggling female feet, all covered in different neon-colored socks with crazy patterns! We were right up front next to the stage (seats we were usually fortunate to get), and Kris, Stephen, and Billy got a great kick out of that…smiles wider than a country mile…in fact, as I recall, I think they laughed their way into the next line! You’ll find other stories unders Fanmail , Fan Pics and Vids, or browse the site.   Image is copyright, N Nabney & is not from the gig being spoken about

Peter Sinclair 1

Tell Kris and Willie

Tell Kris and Willie is a song. It’s a good one, written by a 16 year old young man from Texas. We asked Peter to tell us a bit about how it happened. If you could tell Kris Kristofferson anything for real, what would it be? I would thank him for being such a pioneer in music, and paving a way for generations of songwriters and musicians in the future.  These are the words of an up & coming talented singer-songwriter from Texas, Peter Sinclair. The 16-year-old sounds more 60-year-old sometimes. His song is called, Tell Kris and Willie We asked him to tell us some things What’s your full name?  Peter Archibald Dylan Wallace Sinclair  Date of Birth? 17 January 2002 Hometown? Wortham TX (Blues legend “Blind” Lemon Jefferson was from there too.) Your first song is making quite an impact. When was it recorded? Sept 11th 2018 What made you write it? There have been many songs written about Hank Williams Sr. I believe that The Highwaymen do not get the full credit they deserved, and I thought it was time that someone write a song to commemorate The Highwaymen. Who IS your favourite Highwaymen? Johnny Cash Which instruments do you play? Guitar, piano, drums, autoharp, saxophone, bass guitar – Guitar is by far my favorite. The song is quite traditional for a young person.  What got you into the Americana sound? I’ve always found inspiration with The Highwaymen, and especially the members in their solo careers.   Tell Kris and Willie – Song Facts Peter Sinclair plays all the instruments on the song except for the steel guitar The song is getting quite a lot of air play on local radio stations Peter Sinclair has a great respect for all the legends – Dead or Alive. He … Tries to capture more of an old style sound – feels younger musicians are not doing this today What is the song about? It’s a story about a musician that has just left Oklahoma after doing some gigs. He has a blowout in his bus as he crosses the Oklahoma Texas border. He gets out of the bus to check the damage. A stranger appears out of the darkness – The black-bearded stranger (Waylon Jennings) tells the Young Musician to convey a message to Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. & What is this message? It’s a simple one. Just that, Johnny’s (Johnny Cash) doing OK Each of the Highwaymen is popular with younger people. Boris has a Johnny Cash tatoo. He has been a veteran Kristofferson fan since his schooldays.

Broken Freedom Tour 2002 0

2002 Broken Freedom Tour

The 2002 Broken Freedom Tour was special. I don’t know why – I wasn’t there but I have read the stories and seen the grins. Kris seemed as relaxed as he was passionate and fans who were there have very fond memories. Reimer Hinrichs was there. He gifted us this, “Can’t resist to post this one for those, who haven’t seen it before. Kris with my guitar, San Francisco, summer 2002” – It was taken … “After soundcheck for Broken Freedom Song concert – Emily was there…we all had a ball…..had we not?” –  The answer to that seems clear! Kris Kristofferson, the Strangers & Clyde R Horn October 2018

Kris Kristofferson is on tour with the Strangers. TheKristofferson Strangers Tour 2018 is underway. Kris uses elevators  – But more about that later. What a year it’s been. Despite fires threatening property & lives, the guys have hit the road & other than a short break – they’ve stayed on it. The Girls  Respect & great love for the women that keep the bellies full & the wheels turning – Lisa, Judy & whoever else supports the machine of life on the road.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We know that you are the heartbeat that keeps life on the road – Well …. Human. It must be hard sharing your men with fans who love what they do on stage while jobs pile up around the house. We get it. We are so very grateful for every note, tune and word. We know what you do & we appreciate all of your selfless love & care. The Guys We finally managed to get a photograph of the all of the guys together. No easy task – Usually at least one is hidden behind their keys, fiddle or drums. (Thanks to the Pilgrim) Kris Kristofferson with the Strangers – Redding, Saturday 27 October The Fans Fans are AWESOME. We are also everywhere.  Clyde R Horn was out with his wife at a gig a few weeks ago.  He told us, “Kris, my wife and I shared an elevator at Thunder Valley Casino in California a number of weeks ago. A simple nod from both of us on the way down to the lobby was all that was needed. Deep respect for such a creative human.”  Respect to you and your wife, Clyde. Without ears to hear, music would be pointless. It’s people like you that inspire artists to write.  Keeping up Europe loved Scott Joss & Jeff Ingraham & Doug Colosio.  It’s been a fantastic year. The European Tour was a huge hit – Keep up with our fan pix and vids Scott Joss’ new album is out

Kris Kristofferson & Reimer Hinrichs

Kris Kristofferson and Reimer Hinrichs – Meeting Kris Kristofferson –  Ireland, 2005 “We had an accidental meeting with Kris before his concert in 2005 in Killarney, Ireland. We were near the hotel elevator. My wife Karin, just fell in his arms when he (Kris) and Lisa walked out of the life just as Karin wanted to get into it.” Luckily, “A friend was quick with the camera” – Reimer Hinrichs Kris Kristofferson loves Ireland. He often says so. This is from the previous year – It gives some idea of the effort that goes into a live (often solo) gig  Setlist- Kris Kristofferson Killarney, June 2004 There is something about the Emerald Isle that resonates with Kris. His shows there are just that little bit more special than they are in other places. His connections with Ireland go back a long way – Checkout Norman Nabney’s post from 1982 Kris & Sinead This connection shows no sign of weakening. Kris is a regular supporter of Irish childrens’ charities. Ireland loves him, too. His tours there often sellout, & additional dates have to be added.

Fans Speak

Kris Kristofferson Fans Speak Out Kris Kristofferson has opinions – Strong ones. Some of his fans do, too. We have asked them for their thoughts on a few topics. What do Kris Kristofferson fans think about ….  The Star is Born remake  Agree? Disagree? Tell us.      …about Kris’ hangouts & Haunts My brother-in-law lives in Austin and I remember many years ago when we were there with him we went to Threadgill’s and he told me the history of it and Janis. I do not know if it is still there but he said,  “Come here a minute because I have to show you something …”  In one of the back rooms was a portrait and there was a sheet over it. He picked it up and it was a portrait of Janis in a pretty revealing see-through top –   it was just beautiful. I imagine the picture was covered up at the time because it was being advertised just like home cooking in a family restaurant.  I have no idea where it is now in the restaurant or even if it’s still there. Great food by the way!!!  Sheila Tatar     Checkout our Pics & Vids & Our Fan Mail  Featured image is CC & Attributed

Scott Joss 2018 7

Scott Joss – How Far to Jordan

Scott Joss –  A Stranger, A Friend We fell in love with some of the Strangers during Kris Kristofferson’s Euro tour earlier this year. Now one of the Strangers, the charming Scott Joss is treating fans to an album of his own.  Pssst.. You’ll hear Kris Kristofferson on a couple of the tracks.    How Far to Jordan Question or statement of fact – Too many of us have had too many reasons to think, whisper, mutter or scream a string of words like this.  Songwriters (the good ones) have always helped us make sense of the things that matter most in our lives. The right song at the right time puts us on the spot, or blows us away.  Love & choices are priorities for people with heart. Ok, they’re priorities for the more mature amongst us, too. The title track is Scott Joss’ first gospel song. How Far to Jordan weighs in on deeply personal issues – the sort Kris has never shied away from. It’s fitting that he chose to join Scott on this title track.  Footlights A universal song for the universal songman. It’s about everyone who takes the stage and gives all they have…night after night. People like Kris, Scott & Merle …  Footlights is a Merle Haggard song. Kris joins Scott on this track as a touching and genuine tribute to the man we know as “The Hag” – & they know as a well loved & sorely missed friend. Kris has shown his love & support for Merle many times over the years. Scott says that he, “knew (Merle Haggard) as a major guiding force in his (own) musical journey.”  Three men, one song. Two perform, one speaks through his music.  The Album Scott says he included a couple of Freddy Powers tunes because, “without his influence and love things, for me, would probably not worked out as well as they have…” The others are all Scott Joss songs. I cannot wait to hear them.    The album will be available on Spotify & other streaming sites soon. The website is almost ready & we’ll let you know when it’s live. Scott has got boxes of CDs & a little traveling rig. He hopes you’ll buy a disc & come & see him when he’s out your way.    Credit: Pictures are copyright Tina Stapelfeldt, except the album cover.

Kris Kristofferson's Boots 0

Kris Kristofferson’s Boots

Kris Kristofferson’s Boots & Band Kris Kristofferson’s boots have kept him standing for a long time. A band member guessed 30 years. Biggest KK Fan says it’s longer, since 1971 at least. I don’t argue with BKKF ever. If it involves Kris & film she is THE expert.  The tour is almost over. Kris’ gig in Ireland tonight is for charity. What a human, what a tour.  Time for a quick pause & a brief glance back. A member of the band took a pic of Kris’ boots last night. They are symbols of a road well-travelled & a life well lived.  Willie has Trigger, Kris Kristofferson’s boots have him  Kris Kristofferson fans have grown accustomed to their intimate evenings with Kris. Sure, Kelly did a few songs with her father sometimes, & that was okay. It added a family vibe that complimented his work on his later albums. Roddy Hart or local artists in different towns opened & sang a few songs, & that was alright. The crowd still got what it expected. Lots of Kris alone on stage, travelling light – Free to adjust the set list or the tone to match his or the audience mood, & to talk to us when he felt like it. We were as comfortable with Kris as he was with his boots.  It’d been too long since we saw him last. The natives were getting restless. Then it happened.  The 2018 tour was announced There was great excitement, then the lull. Kris was coming, “YAY!” He wasn’t coming alone. “OH?” “OHHHHH, K.”  If you have ever invited a dear, old friend to come & stay, got ready for the visit, made your plans – Then discovered he was coming, but a new partner & bunch of adult in-laws were tagging along, then you have some idea of how many dedicated Kristofferson fans felt. Some looked back to the 90’s & wondered if they had another revolution in them. Others wished they hadn’t pre-booked (and pre-paid) for their hotel & air tickets, ‘though most were set on going anyway – It was worth seeing Kris even if it meant putting up with other people, wasn’t it? If these other people were called the Strangers, did that change anything? Maybe. Some expectations lowered, but the excitement never faded.  We heard the new band members were from the band that backed Merle Haggard. That cheered up some people & confused others. Kris Kristofferson fans in the UK & some parts of Europe are not necessarily country music fans. I know this differs across continents, counties, provinces & even towns – But as strange as it might seem to some, there are Kristofferson fans who actually dislike country music altogether, or are otherwise unfamiliar with the genre &/ or other country artists.  Some heard the name of the band & thought – We bought familiar, we got Strangers – We’ll make do.   The News was OUT The tour started. Kris has a growing number of younger fans in Europe. Some of us older fans have got more internet savvy. We talk to each other. We traded our Bush Telegraph for Social Media, so we now speak Facetime or WhatsApp & we share pics & video, too. The news flitted through cyberspace, ahead of the busses.  Kris News  Kris was looking good Kris wasn’t signing autographs Kris headed for the bus right after each show No encores Merchandise kept selling out / Advice to get in quick  Band News The guys in the band were Great musicians Great fit. Blended well on stage Unassuming Gentlemen  Friends of Kris’ Attentive – Spent time with fans Great with autographs  Familiar. Watching them felt like watching Kris perform with family or very close friends So WHO are they? They are very well-known, highly skilled musicians in their own right.  Scott Joss – the fiddler Scott Joss has his own solo career, & backed / recorded with Merle Haggard since at least 2003.  Scott Joss plays the fiddle, mandolin & guitar. He is also a songwriter & a fabulous musician (from me who cannot play or read or a note, but I have ears & I know what I like) He looks amazing on stage, & has mastered the knack of breaking in & backing off at just the right moment.  Jeff Ingraham – the drummer  This article tells a bit about his career – notably, one of his biggest learnings was to play for the room. That has come across loud & clear on this tour, & endeared him to fans as the heartbeat of each performance  Doug Colosio – Keyboard & Base  Doug Colosio is an accomplished singer/songwriter & keyboard & base stage musician  He is interviewed here A Couple of Strangers Doug Colosio & Joss Scott cut some muic under the name, A Couple of Strangers.  The link includes their BIOS as well as some video & other links   Doug completes the trio of Some Strangers who backed Kris on this tour. Guess what? We would love to have them return with Kris on his next tour.  In the UK, like most places I suppose, we’d love more dates in the north of the country. Manchester, Birmingham – even Hull all have great venues that we’ll fill for you next time round. Tour Fan Pics & Video can be found here  Look for the ones dated 2018
